Solar rebates can feel a bit like reading tax law in a heatwave, important, but overwhelming.
With state and federal rebates now overlapping (and changing), we wanted to break things down in a way that’s actually useful. No fluff, no fear tactics just the facts, plain and simple.
As one of WA’s longest-running solar suppliers, we’ve had a lot of people asking:
Can I still get a battery rebate if I haven’t signed up yet?
Do I have to give up my battery to the grid?
What’s this new thing about VPPs?
Is Connect Solar even eligible to install under the new scheme?
Let’s clear it all up.
So, what’s changed?
As of 1 July 2025, the WA Government Residential Battery Scheme has expanded to support up to 100,000 homes up from just 20,000 originally. This move is designed to boost battery storage adoption across the state and help homes become more energy independent.
If you’ve been thinking about a battery (or already asked us for a quote), now’s the time to revisit the conversation.

What rebates can I get?
There are two levels of support, and you can combine them for serious savings:
WA State Rebate
- Synergy customers: $130 per kWh (up to $1,300 for a 10kWh battery)
- Horizon Power customers: $380 per kWh (up to $3,800)
More info available via the WA Government Battery Rebate Portal
Federal Rebate
- $330–$335 per kWh, available for systems up to 50kWh
Interest-Free Loans
- Up to $10,000
- Available for households earning under $210,000
- Administered by Plenti, full info here
What’s the catch?
If you’re a Synergy customer, you’ll need to participate in the Virtual Power Plant (VPP) to access the state rebate. That means:
- Synergy can access your battery up to 30 times a year
- You’re compensated at $0.70 per kWh
- If you choose not to participate, you can still access the federal rebate
More VPP info is included in the official government guidelines.
Is Connect Solar part of the rebate program?
Yes — we’re in the final stages of approval and meet all participation requirements, including:
- SAA accreditation
- NetCC compliance
- Synergy training completed
- Fully licensed in-house electricians (no subcontractors)
